Celebrating the Strength of Women in Aged Care – A Tribute on International Women’s Day 2025

September 10, 20252 min read

This International Women’s Day, I find myself reflecting on the incredible women I have the privilege of working alongside in the aged care sector. By day, I manage in-home care for older Australians, ensuring they receive the dignity, support, and compassion they deserve. By night (and weekends!), I pour my heart into Mumma Chelles, my passion project dedicated to supporting parents, educators, and carers in raising and empowering the next generation.

Both of these roles have something in common—they are built on the dedication, resilience, and care of extraordinary women.

Over the past few days, as Tropical Cyclone Alfred loomed over Queensland, I witnessed the strength of these women in action. In the face of uncertainty, with wild weather, road closures, and power outages, they stepped up without hesitation. They worked extra shifts to ensure no one was left without care. They coordinated emergency plans, checked in on vulnerable clients, and ensured continuity of services and supports could occur in a manner that kept clients and staff safe.

This is the reality of aged care—the quiet yet powerful work of women who go above and beyond, not for recognition, but because they truly care.

I also want to acknowledge the women who are not only providing care now but also raising the next generation of incredible women. The mothers, grandmothers, aunts, teachers, and mentors who are shaping the strong, compassionate leaders of tomorrow. Whether they are guiding little hands through their first steps, empowering young minds in the classroom, or leading by example in workplaces and communities, these women are building a future that is kinder, stronger, and more inclusive.

International Women’s Day is about celebrating the achievements of women and advocating for equality. Today, I honour the women in aged care who dedicate their lives to supporting others. I celebrate the mothers and carers who nurture and inspire the next generation. And I acknowledge the power of women uplifting one another—because when we come together, we create strength, resilience, and lasting change.

To every woman who has spent the past few days ensuring the safety and wellbeing of others, whether in aged care, at home, or in the community—I see you. I appreciate you. And today, I celebrate you.

May we continue to support, uplift, and empower one another, because the work of women, in all its forms, is the foundation of a better world.

Happy International Women’s Day!

love,

Chelle 💗
